     Robert “Bob” Getz, 75, of Peoria, passed away at 9:32 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at his home.

     He was born on September 17, 1934 in Peoria, a son of George and Bertha (Pye) Getz. They preceded him in death, along with three brothers, George, Dick and Jim.

     Bob is survived by his son, Michael Getz of Hanna City; daughters, Bonnie Getz of Peoria and Diane (Ben) Miller of West Peoria; granddaughters, Amanda Getz and Cari Denny; grandson, William “BJ” Bragg; great grandsons, Jonathan Denny and Danny Sarver; brothers, Ron Getz of Bonita Springs, FL and Chester “Skip” Getz of Hanna City; sister, Edna (Paul) Stippich of OH; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends, including his companion and caregiver, Dawn Havens.

     He was a strong union man, belonging to Laborers Local #165 for sixty years. He was last employed with J.C. Dillon Plumbing. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #265.

     Bob was a man of many talents. He enjoyed working on cars, and sharing stories and jokes with his friends. Inside that tough skin was a very tender heart. He was always ready to lend a hand and give advice.

     Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment of his cremated remains will be in the columbarium at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to Methodist Hospice and Lifeline Services, 221 N.E. Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL 61636-0002 or to Illinois Cancer Care Foundation, 8940 North Wood Sage Road, Peoria, IL 61615.

     Arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria.
